SUMMARY: Uganda will save $900m (UGX 3.1 trillion) that it currently spends on steel imports, if plans to process its iron ore in Kabale and Butogota (Kanungu) are implemented, President Yoweri Museveni has said. “We also plan to process our rich iron ore reserves into high-quality steel, which will significantly reduce our dependence on steel imports that currently cost over $900m (UGX 3.1trillion) annually,” he said.
