SUMMARY: Following the importation of biometric voter verification machines, the Electoral Commission (EC) is seeking 35,734 qualified, competent, and skilled individuals to operate the machines during the 2026 general election. The number also includes personnel who will train the operators of the machines. Successful individuals will be hired on a short-term contract basis within the establishment.

UPDF LAUNCHES TAREHE SITA CELEBRATIONS

SUMMARY: The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has launched celebrations for its 45th Tarehe Sita Anniversary. The annual celebrations to be held on February 6, next year, will be held in Kigezi sub-region under the theme, “Defending the Gains of Revolution and Honouring the Sacrifices of the Freedom Fighters, A Call for National Unity, Peace and Socio-Economic Transformation.”

PRESIDENT PARDONS 143 PRISONERS

SUMMARY: President Museveni has pardoned 143 prisoners who had been serving sentences for various offences. In accordance with Article 121 (4)(a) of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, and on the recommendation of the Prerogative of Mercy Committee, H.E. the President has granted pardon to a total of 143 petty convicts.
