GOVERNMENT CLEARS AGENCIES, LOCAL GOVERNMENTS TO RECRUIT STAFF

Summary: The Government has cleared 131 ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), as well as local governments, to recruit 6,853 new staff this financial year. Primary school teachers and health workers, such as nurses and midwives, will take the lion’s share in the recruitment drive, which the government said must be concluded before the year ends. The Government targets to recruit 2,316 primary school teachers, 1,477 medics for health centres, and 1,316 carders under the local government structures.

Summary: The President ended his speech by congratulating the people of Kween for offering him 500 acres of land to establish an industrial park. “So, I will put one like that in Mbale (Mbale Industrial Park),” he pledged. The President also promised a public university.” It is already our policy to have a public university per zone, and we shall have one in Sebei. It is just a question of budgeting,” the President said, noting that universities have already been built in Lango, Teso, and Acholi.

Summary: The Government has implored schools and other academic institutions to embrace affordable renewable energy. “When schools go green, they set a powerful example for communities, showing that clean, affordable energy is achievable and central to Uganda’s development vision under the Energy Policy 2023, NDPIV (National Development Plan IV) and Vision 2040,” the Commissioner of Energy Resource Department at the Energy Ministry, Dr Brian Isabirye, said.

Summary: The Government has vowed to introduce tighter regulations for moneylenders, including requiring them to maintain a capital base and to have their business premises registered with the regulator.
