MINISTER OTAFIIRE WARNS YOUTH AGAINST ELECTION VIOLENCE

SUMMARY: The Internal Affairs Minister, Maj. Gen. Rtd Kahinda Otafire, has warned the youth against getting tempted to engage in election violence, saying it would provoke the use of force against them, which may result in adverse effects. The minister said some youth take advantage of the election period to engage in vandalism and destruction of public property, citing the burning of tires on public roads, which damages them.

SUMMARY: President Yoweri Museveni has emphasised that under the Parish Development Model (PDM), every household in Uganda must engage in a wealth creation activity in order to get out of poverty. The President said the PDM welcomes all individuals across all sectors of wealth creation, especially commercial agriculture, where every Ugandan should participate and transition from subsistence to the money economy.

SUMMARY: Uganda is set to boost its healthcare and veterinary diagnostics sector through the local manufacturing of testing kits for malaria, cervical and prostate cancers, as well as cattle pregnancy. The development is being spearheaded by a research team at Makerere University and marks a critical milestone in the country’s scientific and public health journey.

SUMMARY: Uganda is set to receive about $1.5m (UGX 5.4b) in accumulated merger fees that have been held by the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Competition Commission over time.
