Over the last five years, we have registered remarkable achievements at Lira Regional Referral Hospital, thanks to the continued support of the Government of Uganda and our partners.
One of the key milestones is the construction of a modern Outpatient Department (OPD) and a new Maternity and Neonatal Complex (MNC). In addition, we have recently received a newly constructed, state-of-the-art Satellite Laboratory, which is fully equipped to run all essential diagnostic services required by specialists.
Not far from here, we also have a modern Call and Dispatch Centre, constructed with government support, to ensure that ambulance services across the entire region are well coordinated. This enables the efficient transfer of patients across the catchment area.
Lira Regional Referral Hospital now serves a population of approximately 2,615,000 people drawn from 10 administrative districts in the Lango Sub-region. These include Alebtong, Otuke, Kole, Dokolo, Amolatar, Apac, Oyam, Kwania, Lira District, and Lira City, where the hospital is located.
In terms of service delivery, our capacity has greatly improved. We are now able to provide Dialysis (DIC) services for patients with kidney complications. We also have a fully functional Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Currently, the hospital has 16 medical specialists serving in various fields, including surgery, psychiatry, ophthalmology, gynecology, and pediatrics, among others.
All these improvements are aimed at enhancing the quality of health services provided to the people of the Lango Sub-region and beyond.
