President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni this evening addressed thousands of residents in Omoro District , calling upon the people of Acholi Sub-Region to safeguard peace, embrace government development programmes, and work collectively towards building household prosperity.
The engagement in Omoro marked the third rally of the President in the Acholi Sub-Region as part of his ongoing nationwide tour aimed at strengthening the implementation of government programmes, consolidating security gains, and promoting economic transformation at the grassroots.
Earlier in the day, President Museveni was in Nwoya District, where he engaged the people in the area and requested them to vote for the NRM candidates.
He reiterated his message of peace, security, and wealth creation, principles that he said remain central to Uganda’s development agenda.
Addressing the gathering in Omoro, the President commended the people of Acholi for their resilience and contribution to the restoration of peace and stability following years of insurgency.
He said that Northern Uganda, which once suffered the brunt of conflict, now stands as a testimony to the power of peace and good leadership.
“Peace and security are the cornerstones of progress. When we achieved peace in Acholi and the rest of Uganda, we laid the foundation for development. Today, we are building roads, extending electricity, and empowering families through wealth creation programmes. That is how we move from subsistence to prosperity,” President Museveni said.
The President encouraged residents to fully utilise government economic empowerment initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, which are designed to help households move from hand-to-mouth survival to income-generating production.
He explained that the PDM provides capital for organised groups at the parish level to invest in enterprises such as crop farming, animal husbandry, and small-scale trade.
He further advised local leaders to take an active role in mobilising communities, ensuring that funds are put to productive use, and discouraging misuse of public resources.
“The PDM money is not for consumption; it is for production. If each household engages in income-generating work, the whole country will prosper. That is how we shall build a self-sustaining economy,” the President added.
President Museveni also spoke about the importance of education and skilling the youth, emphasising that human capital development is central to Uganda’s Vision 2040 agenda. He noted that the Government continues to prioritise the construction of schools, technical institutions, and skilling centres across the country to equip young people with practical skills for employment and innovation.
In addition, the President underscored Government’s commitment to equitable development across all regions.
He said that major infrastructure projects, including road construction, rural electrification, and water supply systems, are being implemented to open up rural areas for investment and service delivery.
“Development must reach every corner of Uganda. That is why we are constructing roads, providing electricity and water, and supporting farmers. These are not luxuries; they are tools for transformation,” he explained.
The President also applauded the people of Acholi for embracing peacebuilding efforts and urged them to remain vigilant against elements that seek to destabilise the country.
He assured the public that Uganda’s security forces remain strong and committed to protecting the peace that Ugandans now enjoy.
“We must never go back to the days of insecurity. The peace we fought for must be preserved through hard work, discipline, and unity,” the President said.
During the engagement, Dr Tanga Odoi speaking on behalf of the NRM secretary General thanked the President for his continued support to the region, citing improved infrastructure, access to electricity, and increased government presence as key indicators of progress.
The President’s visit to Omoro and Nwoya forms part of a wider national election campaign tour where he is engaging citizens directly to ask them to vote for the National Resistance Movement.
President Museveni concluded his address by reminding the people of Acholi that national development begins at the household level. He called on citizens to take personal responsibility for their prosperity by working hard, embracing savings culture, and engaging in productive ventures.
“Development is not only about big government projects; it starts with each family producing for both consumption and sale. When every household participates in the money economy, Uganda becomes stronger,” he said.
The Omoro engagement reaffirmed the President’s message that peace, development, and prosperity are interconnected pillars of Uganda’s transformation journey.
Through unity, discipline, and full participation in government initiatives, he said, Acholi Sub-Region and the entire country will continue to advance toward shared national progress.
