The Ugandan government, through the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, is set to present its budget for FY 2024–25, marking the final implementation year of the 3rd National Development Plan.
The budget for FY2024–25 retains the theme of “Full Monetization of the Ugandan Economy through Commercial Agriculture; Industrialization; Expanding and Broadening Services; Digital Transformation; and Market Access.”.
The budget aims to monetize the Ugandan economy through commercial agriculture, industrialization, expanding services, digital transformation, and market access.
The strategy includes maintaining peace and security, road maintenance, and investments in education, health, and water.
Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, the economy has shown significant growth, with national output expanding by 6.0% in FY2023/24 and per capita GDP rising to USD1,146.
The EU has also joined COMESA as a major trading bloc, resulting in a trade surplus of USD 1.59 billion in 2023.
