His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday, 25th February 2025, embarked on a journey to assess the impact of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in the Ankole sub-region.

His first stop was Rubirizi District, where he met Mrs. Deziranta Tumusiime, a 64-year-old woman who has transformed her life through the PDM program.

His next stop was Sheema District, where he met Honest Abenawe, a model farmer who has diversified her farm to include dairy farming, coffee, bananas, and beekeeping.

Her efforts have not only improved her livelihood but also inspired others in her community.

“I appreciate the support from the PDM program, which has enabled me to improve my dairy breeds and increase my income,” Ms. Abenawe said.

Mrs. Ahimbisibwe Harriet

President Museveni’s visit to Mrs. Ahimbisibwe Harriet in Ibanda District marked the end of his day, where he witnessed firsthand the progress of farmers benefiting from the Parish Development Model (PDM).

He noted that there’s been significant growth in the number of people engaged in the money economy, from 10% in the 1960s to 68% today

The president was struck by the progress made by the farmers in the Ankole sub-region. The PDM program has empowered them to take control of their livelihoods and improve their economic well-being.

However, he also noted that there are still challenges to be addressed, including cases of extortion of PDM money. “I urge the leaders to investigate these cases and take action against those responsible.” He said

As I reflect on my journey, I’m reminded that the PDM program is not just about providing financial support; it’s about empowering communities to break the cycle of poverty and build a brighter future.
