Uganda’s oil industry is making significant progress with the recent arrival of the first batch of insulated line pipes for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project. The pipeline, which spans 1,443 km and connects Uganda’s Albertine oil fields to Tanzania’s Tanga port, is a crucial step toward realising the country’s oil ambitions.
The construction contractor for the EACOP project, China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co. Ltd., received a delivery of 9 trucks from the coating plant in Tanzania containing the insulated line pipe at the Main Camp and Pipe Yard (MCPY) 4 in Kyotera District.
The EACOP project, managed by China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co. Ltd., is expected to bring about job creation, economic growth, and greater regional cooperation. Both Uganda and Tanzania will reap benefits in terms of tax revenues, infrastructure development, and technology transfer.
This development signifies the realisation of President Museveni’s vision for Uganda’s economic transformation and the NRM government’s dedication to leveraging the country’s natural resources for national development. EACOP’s strong focus on safety, environmental sustainability, and local community engagement ensures responsible development, positioning Uganda as a major player in East Africa’s energy landscape.
The successful delivery of the first batch of insulated line pipes is a testament to effective partnerships between EACOP Ltd., China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co. Ltd., and local stakeholders, as well as Uganda’s commitment to responsible natural resource management.
The next steps for the EACOP project include pipeline laying and welding, testing, and commissioning, with the ultimate goal of transforming Uganda’s economy and energy landscape. This achievement is a cause for celebration, and congratulations to all involved in the project.
