Uganda to Host High-Level Forum to Amplify African Youth Voices at the UN Summit for the Future

Must Read

In a groundbreaking initiative, the Government of Uganda, in partnership with the African Union, is organising a high-level side event on youth empowerment and participation in development in Africa to empower African youth voices within the United Nations.

The event, titled “Towards the Future: Africa Youth’s Side Event on the Collective Agenda, Geopolitical Occurrences, and the Future of Multilateralism,” will take place on September 20, 2024, in New York.

The event will bring together 70 participants, including high-level government officials, youth leaders, and development partners from across Africa, to discuss ways to amplify African youth voices within the UN.

In the face of global challenges such as climate change, inequality, and social injustice, the perspectives and ideas of young people are critical. The High-Level Forum will provide a platform for African youth to share their solutions, ensuring that their concerns are heard and addressed at the highest levels of global governance.

Uganda’s efforts in leading this initiative demonstrate its dedication to empowering young people and promoting their active participation in national and global affairs.

By amplifying African youth voices, Uganda aims to contribute to a more inclusive and representative global community, where the needs and aspirations of young people are given top priority.

The expected outcomes of the High-Level Forum include strengthened partnerships between African governments, youth organisations, and the UN to promote youth empowerment and participation, increased representation of African youth in UN processes and decision-making bodies, and a comprehensive strategy to address the challenges faced by young people in Africa, including education, employment, and healthcare.

This high-level side event is a testament to Uganda’s leadership role in promoting African interests on the global stage and its commitment to empowering young people to take centre stage in global decision-making processes.

The event is organised by the Office of the Prime Minister of Uganda, the African Union Commission, the Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, and the United Nations Development Programme.
