Uganda Celebrates International Women’s Day 2025

Today marks a momentous celebration in Uganda as the nation comes together to honor International Women’s Day.

The festivities are taking place at Bukwiri Church of Uganda Primary School in Kyankwanzi District.

Uganda is embracing International Women’s Day 2025 with a renewed commitment to accelerate action for gender equality.

The strides made in promoting gender equality are inspiring, with significant achievements such as:

  • Women’s Representation:
33.8% in Parliament and 45.8% in Cabinet positions.
  •  Reducing Gender-Based Violence:
A remarkable decrease in physical violence against women, from 51% in 2016 to 23% in 2022.
  • Empowering Women Entrepreneurs:
UWEP,YLP and PDM.
  • Digital Inclusion and Climate Action

The country is also working to:

  • Extend broadband infrastructure
  • Promote affirmative action for female ICT innovators
  • Provide digital skills training for women and persons with disabilities
  • Implement gender-responsive environmental policies

The theme for International Women’s Day 2025, “Accelerate Action for Gender Equality,” calls for bold and strategic interventions to forge a gender-equal future.

This message resonates deeply, reflecting the pressing need for progress in gender equality and women’s empowerment over the past 30 years.

The global community joins in this celebration, with the United Nations’ theme, “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” serving as a rallying cry to accelerate progress toward gender equality, empowering women and girls, and dismantling systemic barriers and biases.
