Uganda and Mozambique strengthen bilateral ties at the 2nd Joint Permanent Commission

The 2nd Uganda-Mozambique Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) took place in Kampala, Uganda, from September 15-19, 2024. Hon. John Mulimba, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs/Regional Affairs, warmly welcomed the Mozambican delegation, led by the Minister of Interior, to the Pearl of Africa.

The JPC aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and consolidate gains and bonds of friendship for mutual benefit. The commission focused on areas such as defence and security, tourism and wildlife, agriculture, ICT, trade and investment, and infrastructure development.

 Hon. Mulimba highlighted Uganda’s commitment to sharing expertise in wildlife conservation, defence, and information sharing. He also expressed interest in Mozambique’s gas sector expertise, emphasising mutual support.

Key discussion points included:

  • Security and Stability: Combating terrorism, insurgency, and transnational crime
  • Agriculture and Trade: Enhancing cooperation, best practices, technology transfer, and capacity building
  • Regional Integration: Promoting peace, stability, and development across Africa

The commission commended the technical teams and experts from both countries for their tireless efforts. Hon. Mulimba expressed optimism that the JPC would yield tangible outcomes, enhancing cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

The 2nd Uganda-Mozambique Joint Permanent Commission demonstrated the commitment of both nations to strengthening bilateral ties, promoting regional integration, and ensuring peace and prosperity for their people.
