The NCDC launches its 2nd international conference on curriculum development

The National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) has formally launched its second international conference on curriculum development, convening education professionals, researchers, and stakeholders from various regions across the globe. This conference aims to provide a distinguished platform for research, innovation, and the exchange of ideas, with an emphasis on shaping the future of education both in Uganda and internationally.

Professor George W. Openjuru, Chairperson of the NCDC Governing Council, stated, “Conferences of this nature play a crucial role in the evolution of the educational landscape. They serve as vital platforms for research, innovation, and the dissemination of ideas. Most importantly, they facilitate networking opportunities and knowledge exchange, thus fostering connections among education professionals worldwide.”

The objectives of the NCDC align closely with the National Development Plan (NDP) IV, which seeks to enhance human capital development. This conference presents a significant opportunity for participants to gain insights from global perspectives that can inform national education strategies.

“Our primary objective is to ensure that learners acquire relevant and employable skills that correspond with the rapidly changing demands of the workforce,” remarked Professor Openjuru. “We express our sincere gratitude to all stakeholders who have contributed to the organisation of this conference. Your support is indispensable, and we anticipate that this second international conference will be a resounding success.”

Professor Openjuru urged participants to assist with the organisation of the conference in any capacity feasible, highlighting the importance of collective effort in achieving the conference’s objectives. “We encourage all attendees to contribute to the organisation of this conference, as every form of support is vital,” he indicated.

The conference is poised to serve as a pivotal milestone within Uganda’s education sector, providing a platform for stakeholders to share knowledge, expertise, and best practices in curriculum development. With a strong emphasis on human capital development and skills acquisition, the conference is expected to make substantial contributions toward cultivating a skilled and productive workforce in Uganda.

The conference scheduled to take place on April 23-24, 2026, at the Speke Resort and Conference Centre in Munyonyo, Kampala, Uganda

The theme of the conference is “Innovative Curriculum Approaches for Sustainable Education in a Globalised World.” This theme aims to provide a comprehensive forum for research, innovation, and the exchange of ideas focused on shaping the future of education in Uganda and beyond.

Dr Richard Irumba, Deputy Director of NCDC and Chairperson of the Steering Committee for this event, stated, “It is both an honour and a privilege to welcome you to the official launch of the second international conference on curriculum development. This gathering represents more than a ceremonial commencement; it signifies the initiation of an inspiring journey toward shaping educational policies and ensuring that this conference is memorable.”

The conference scheduled to take place on April 23-24, 2026, at the Speke Resort and Conference Centre in Munyonyo, Kampala, Uganda, will address several key topics, including the integration of information and communication technology (ICT) and artificial intelligence (AI) in the education sector, sustainability and global citizenship, interdisciplinary approaches, indigenous knowledge systems, competency-based education, and entrepreneurship.

Dr Irumba emphasised, “We operate within a global context, and students studying in Uganda will engage with both local and international job markets. We are preparing learners for a globalised world, making this theme timely and imperative.”

The conference will include keynote addresses, interactive panel discussions, poster presentations, exhibitions, and breakout sessions. Dr Irumba encouraged participants to actively engage, share their expertise, and support the conference through donations.

“Every contribution, regardless of size, aids us in collaborating with outstanding minds to shape the future of education,” he stated. “Let us collectively make this conference a dynamic forum for idea generation, partnership development, and meaningful change.”

The NCDC has received a commendable response to its call for abstracts, with numerous insightful submissions from researchers, educators, and practitioners. The conference promises to be a significant event within Uganda’s education sector, facilitating the sharing of knowledge, expertise, and best practices in curriculum development.

Dr Irumba asserted, “We look forward to strengthening existing partnerships and welcoming new collaborations. Together, we can establish a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready education system.”

This conference underscores the NCDC’s commitment to transforming education in Uganda and beyond. Dr Irumba remarked, “Your dedication and belief in the transformative power of education are what will drive meaningful change.”

Dr Grace K. Baguma, Director of NCDC, stated, “We are driven by our national quality curriculum that meets the needs of society. We achieve this by effectively engaging stakeholders.”
