The National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) to Announce the 2nd International Conference on Curriculum Development

The National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) is scheduled to announce the launch of its 2nd International Conference on Curriculum Development on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. The conference will be themed “Innovative Curriculum Approaches for Sustainable Education in a Globalised World”.

This event follows the success of the inaugural conference held in 2023, which convened educators, policymakers, and stakeholders from around the globe to explore innovative methodologies in curriculum development.

Dr Richard Irumba, the Deputy Director of Research, Consultancy, and Library Services at NCDC, expressed enthusiasm regarding the upcoming conference, which aims to advance the education sector. The event will unite stakeholders from various fields to discuss effective strategies for curriculum development and implementation.

“We will invite media representatives to attend in order to disseminate information regarding the event,” Dr Irumba remarked. “Several sponsors have already pledged financial support for this conference.”

The conference will encompass a variety of activities, including paper and poster presentations, panel discussions, and breakout sessions. Dr Irumba underscored the significance of resource mobilisation in ensuring the success of the conference, informing that NCDC is actively seeking support from development partners, educational institutions, and private entities.

“We have developed several sponsorship packages, encompassing both in-kind contributions and monetary support,” he elaborated. “While exhibiting incurs a cost, it is substantially subsidised as we operate as a government agency without profit motives.”

When questioned about integrating advanced innovations into curriculum frameworks, Dr Irumba assured that NCDC is committed to ensuring that the outcomes of high-level conferences like this one lead to practical reforms in classroom settings.

“We compile conference reports and generate policy briefs,” he stated. “Numerous issues and insights emerge, which we subsequently translate into actionable policy. Additionally, we have established a comprehensive programme aimed at skilling and talent development.”

In his appeal to stakeholders, Dr Irumba encouraged researchers to submit their papers and abstracts and urged development partners to provide support and sponsorship for the conference.

“My appeal to both local and international researchers is to submit your papers and abstracts,” he indicated. “The call for submissions is open until August 31. We invite you to collaborate with NCDC and the government in organising this international conference.”

The conference is scheduled to take place on April 23-24, 2026, and Dr Irumba is optimistic about its success, contingent upon support from various stakeholders.

The National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC), established by Decree No. 7 in 1973, has committed over 52 years to the development and review of curricula, the production of instructional materials, and the empowerment of educators through capacity-building initiatives. As the organisation approaches its golden anniversary, it acknowledges the significance of sharing its expertise and learning from global counterparts.

In 2023, NCDC marked a pivotal milestone by hosting the inaugural International Conference on Curriculum Development. The event was a notable success, gathering educators, policymakers, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds to deliberate on innovative curricula. It took place on April 26-27, 2023, at the Speke Resort and Conference Centre in Munyonyo, Kampala, Uganda.

Building on the momentum from the first conference, NCDC is diligently preparing for the second International Conference on Curriculum Development. The theme, “Innovative Curriculum Approaches for Sustainable Education in a Globalised World”, is poised to serve as an exciting platform for the exchange of insights, the showcasing of advancements, and the sharing of diverse experiences in curriculum innovation.

The conference will address a broad spectrum of sub-themes, including the integration of ICT and AI in education, sustainability and global citizenship, interdisciplinary approaches to curriculum development, and inclusivity in education, among others. With an anticipated attendance of over 500 delegates, both in person and virtually, the conference will provide ample opportunities for paper and poster presentations, as well as engaging panel discussions and breakout sessions.

As NCDC prepares for the conference, it expresses gratitude for the support of various institutions and individuals who have financially contributed to making this event viable. The organisation encourages further stakeholders to join in supporting the conference through financial contributions directed to the designated account.

The 2nd International Conference on Curriculum Development is positioned to be a landmark event within the field of education.
