Security Shake-Up: Police Leadership Gets a Revamp

In a significant move, the newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abbas Byakagaba, has reorganised the police hierarchy, resulting in major changes to the force’s leadership. The changes aim to strengthen the police force’s effectiveness and efficiency.

Notably, long-serving police spokesperson Fred Enanga has been replaced by ACP Rusoke Kituuma. Enanga, who has been the face of the police force for many years, has been reassigned to serve as the Deputy Director of Interpol, where he will utilise his expertise to support international police cooperation.

Richard Echega has been appointed as the new Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, with ACP Twishime Gerald serving as his deputy. This new leadership is expected to enhance the security and safety of the capital city.

Other significant changes include:

SSP Seguya is appointed as Regional Police Commander (RPC) for KMP East.
SSP Nanoka is appointed as RPC KMP North.
Ziwede appointed as Commissioner of Police (CP) Curriculum
SCP Steven Tanui, formerly KMP Commander, was reassigned as Deputy Director of Fire.
CP Namuwoza is appointed as CP Fire.
SCP Nanding is appointed as Commandant of the of the Police Special Unit (PSU).
CP Kibwika appointed as HRM Oil and Gas
Nyabongo ACp Mastura is appointed as Tourism Police Commander.
Muheirwe appointed as Commandant of Police Barracks

These changes are part of IGP Byakagaba’s efforts to restructure the police force, improve its performance, and enhance public safety and security. The new leadership is expected to bring fresh perspectives and expertise to their respective roles, driving the police force towards greater efficiency and effectiveness.
