President Museveni Supports Local Farmers with Coffee Seedlings

Must Read

On September 6, 2024, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni donated 50,000 coffee seedlings to farmers in Gomba and Sembabule Districts.

The seedlings were distributed to beneficiaries in Kirasi village, Gomba, and Lutunku village, Sembabule, as part of the President’s poverty alleviation project.

Ms. Jane Barekye, State House Comptroller, delivered the seedlings and stated, “The President wants you people to be rich. He is committed to supporting his neighbours in these districts to overcome poverty through commercial agriculture.”

This initiative is part of a larger poverty eradication program launched in 2011, which has already benefitted 2,035 households in nine villages across Gomba and Sembabule.

The program has provided various resources, including cows, goats, coffee seedlings, and poultry, to help households generate income and improve their livelihoods.

“We are grateful for the president’s support. These coffee seedlings will help us improve our lives and become self-sufficient,” said one beneficiary.

Ms. Sarah Nalwanga, project coordinator, assured the farmers, “All that the President promised you will be fulfilled. We will continue to provide seedlings to all interested farmers in the region until everyone is covered.”

The president’s efforts aim to empower local farmers and promote economic growth in the region.

“With these seedlings, we can now grow our own coffee and sell it to improve our income. Thank you, Mr. President, for believing in us,” noted one farmer.
