President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to enhancing the Parish Development Model (PDM), a vital initiative aimed at transitioning Ugandans from subsistence farming to a monetary economy.
During his performance assessment tour in the Bukedi subregion, Museveni addressed a rally at Kamuge Playground in Kamuge Town Council, Pallisa District, on November 10, 2024.
Wealth Creation through Commercial Agriculture
President Museveni highlighted the importance of adopting commercial agriculture practices, specifically the concept of “ekibaro,” to improve livelihoods. He proposed a 4-acre model where farmers can cultivate coffee, fruits, and pasture for dairy cows, as well as grow food crops and engage in backyard poultry, piggery, and fish farming. Additionally, the President suggested incorporating cocoa and palm oil into the seven designated activities.
Education and Poverty Alleviation
H.E cautioned against charging fees to vulnerable Ugandan children in government schools, noting that the dropout rate by Primary Seven stands at 82%. He reminded community leaders to mobilise their communities to take advantage of poverty alleviation programs such as NAADS, Operation Wealth Creation, PDM, and Emyooga.
Environmental Conservation
The President advised farmers to shift from cultivating rice in swamps to fish farming at the edges of wetlands to prevent environmental degradation.
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja praised Museveni’s commitment to progress and development, while NRM Vice Chairperson Capt. Mike Mukula expressed gratitude for his efforts in maintaining peace and promoting Pan-Africanism.
This rally was part of Museveni’s ongoing tour focused on wealth creation, aiming to promote socioeconomic transformation in Uganda.
