On May 29, 2024, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met with the leadership of Uganda’s Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) in State House in Entebbe.
The leaders, led by Uganda’s Mufti, Sheikh Shaban Ramathan Mubajje, Dr. Muhammad Lubega Kisambira, Sheikh Obeid Kamulegeya, and Hajjat Sophia Safina Kenyangi, thanked the President for his commitment to Muslim-Ugandan unity, security, and socioeconomic transformation.
The UMSC embraced the Parish Development Model (PDM) and committed complete support for all government wealth-creation initiatives.
“This commitment reflects the UMSC’s dedication to promoting socio-economic development and improving the lives of Muslims and Ugandans at large,” stated Mufti Sheikh Mubajje.
The UMSC also requested President Museveni’s support for the Union of East African Muslim Councils Conference, the UMSC @ 50 event, and the Uganda Women Muslim Council function.
President Museveni emphasised the importance of providing a solid foundation and direction for young people, emphasising the need for churches and mosques to promote a culture of wealth creation.
“The current challenge is to provide the youth, especially those recruited by the ADF, with a strong foundation and guidance in life. They lack the knowledge and understanding of how to lead productive lives. Engaging in banditry in the Congo is not the only way to survive.” President Museveni said.
The President encouraged mosques and churches to continuously teach important life skills and cultivate a strong work ethic among young people.
