The Ugandan government has resumed distributing livestock materials, mainly pigs, to special interest groups for improved household incomes.
In the current financial year (2023/24), National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) has procured 3,352 pigs, with the four archdioceses of Kampala, Gulu, Tororo, and Mbarara receiving first.
The pigs are breeding pigs for multiplication purposes, with 2,234 females and 1,118 males.
The support targets youth, religious institutions, women groups, associations of the disabled, widows, and spouses of security officers.
Since 2015, NAADS has distributed over 20,000 pigs to farmers for household income in various districts and special interest groups.
