Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon. Amongi Betty, graced the launch of the Obuntubulamu Programme on Friday, November 20, 2024, at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel. The program is a pioneering initiative aimed at promoting values and ethics essential for sustainable development in Uganda. It is a collaborative effort between the Nnabagereka Development Foundation, nine cultural institutions, and the United Nations Development Programme.
The launch event featured esteemed keynote speakers, including Her Royal Highness Sylvia Nagginda, representatives of cultural institutions, government officials, the UNDP Resident Representative, and cultural leaders.
The Obuntubulamu program seeks to leverage Uganda’s rich cultural diversity to promote values and ethics essential for sustainable development. By reviving the concept of Obuntubulamu, the program aims to foster a culture of empathy, cooperation, respect, and social responsibility. This initiative is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which emphasise the importance of promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development.
The Nnabagereka Development Foundation has been leveraging culture to improve the quality of life for children, youth, and women in Uganda for the past 24 years. With its extensive experience and expertise, the foundation is well-positioned to lead this innovative program.
The Obuntubulamu program launch is poised to be a significant event in Uganda’s development landscape, bringing together key stakeholders to promote values and ethics for sustainable development.
