UGANDA TO SAVE UGX 3.1 TRILLION THROUGH STEEL PRODUCTION

SUMMARY: Uganda will save $900m (UGX 3.1 trillion) that it currently spends on steel imports, if plans to process its iron ore in Kabale and Butogota (Kanungu) are implemented, President Yoweri Museveni has said. “We also plan to process our rich iron ore reserves into high-quality steel, which will significantly reduce our dependence on steel imports that currently cost over $900m (UGX 3.1trillion) annually,” he said.

SUMMARY: The Ministry for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs wants all heavy goods vehicles off the city streets during day time, saying they pose a big danger to people’s lives. State Minister for Kampala Kabuye Kyofatogabye said the city is on a time bomb as a result of increasing heavy goods trucks, including fuel tankers that are on every street, and yet the city has a huge population during day time.

SUMMARY: Uganda and its joint venture partners under the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) can finally rest, following the delivery of the last batch of the 1,443km pipes for the mega project. The journey, which started in December 2023, has finally ended with the delivery of the remaining 80km of pipes for the crude oil pipeline.

SUMMARY: For years, several beneficiaries of the free Namanve Industrial Park land have failed to put up developments within stipulated 18-month time frame. As a result, the Government has warned that such land will be repossessed and re-allocated to other investors.
