NIGERIA TO IMPORT UGANDAN MILK, COFFEE

SUMMARY: Nigeria is to start importing milk and coffee from Uganda. This was revealed by Olesegun Obasanjo, the former President of Nigeria, as he paid a courtesy call on President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday. President Museveni took Obasanjo on a tour of Pearl Dairy Farms Limited in Mbarara City and later joined farmers at Kaaro in Kiruhura District. Obasanjo was pleased to learn about the high milk production in Uganda. He assured President Museveni and farmers of Kiruhura and Kazo Districts that Nigeria is willing to buy Ugandan processed milk and coffee.

SUMMARY: President Yoweri Museveni has urged university leaders to overcome egocentrism in order to make effective contributions to society. He stated: “We have everything we need, but you must rise above egocentrism. That is where the problem lies. If you have access to all this knowledge and are humble rather than arrogant, there is no way you cannot contribute to a society that needs so much,” the President said.

SUMMARY: The Government has started releasing capitation grants to schools under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE) programmes.The disbursement had been halted, pending audits and verification of beneficiaries by the Education Ministry. The exercise, expected to be concluded next week, will see districts receive capitation grants in batches, considering those whose numbers were verified first.

Turyagyenda, a member of the Education Policy Review Commission, replaces Ketty Lamaro, while Bagonza, who has been the undersecretary of Internal Affairs Ministry, takes over from Geraldine Ssali, who was dropped last month.
