SUMMARY: The Government has released a plan to accommodate employees affected by the Rationalisation Government of Agencies and Public Expenditure (RAPEX) policy, into the available slots in public service. According to the implementation plan, the recruitment of former employees of the 21 merged agencies will be done in phases. The first job openings will target former staff of the Bureau for non-governmental organisations, Uganda Warehouse Receipt Systems Authority, Uganda National Meteorological Authority, National Children Authority and Uganda Trypanosomiasis Control Council.

HALF OF BOARDING SCHOOLS DO NOT MEET STANDARDS -MINISTER

SUMMARY: As schools open for the third term, Dr Joyce Kaducu, the State Minister for Primary Education, has revealed that 52.5% of boarding schools in Uganda do not meet minimum standards. Hon. Kaducu stated that a special inspection report by the ministry found that over half of these schools fall short, in terms of boarding facilities. During a parliamentary session in Gulu last month, Hon .Kaducu reported that the study uncovered substandard facilities in many boarding schools which endanger student’s safety.

SUMMARY: Karuma Bridge will be closed to the public, starting on Monday to allow the contractor commence repairs on the structure, Works Minister, Gen. Katumba Wamala announced yesterday, Gen. Wamala said the decision is to give engineers enough time to work on the 61-year-old structure. The bridge is expected to be completed in three months.
