SUMMARY: President Yoweri Museveni has urged the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to prioritise corruption cases. The President made the appeal during his address to detectives and prosecutors at the closing ceremony of the inaugural annual ODPP/CID coordination meeting at the CID headquarters in Kibuli, Kampala, yesterday. “Corruption is a major problem, but it is relatively easy to combat because it primarily targets government resources meant for the people,” President Museveni said.

Summary: With effect from next academic year (2025), students who enrol at community polytechnics, technical schools and farm schools will study under the revised curriculum. Subsequently, instead of studying per term, learners at this level will study under a semester system, which is used by colleges and universities. This implies that they will be studying two semesters instead of three terms a year. In addition, students will have up to five years, within which to complete the course to allow those who may wish to drop off and work and get fees, before they return.

Summary: The Government has announced the commencement of an infrastructural project that will yield the construction of 300km in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan area. The project is planned to be completed in five years and is expected to greatly improve connectivity and mobility in Mukono, Kampala, Wakiso and Mpigi districts.

Summary: Chinese President Xi Jinping said yesterday that China stands ready to work with Africa to implement 10 partnership, actions to jointly advance modernisation. One-third of the world’s population lives in China and Africa, and there will be no global modernisation without the modernisation of China and Africa, Xi said in a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). The 10 actions, to be implemented in the next three years, cover areas of mutual learning among civilisations, trade prosperity, industrial chain cooperation, connectivity, development cooperation, health, agriculture and livelihoods, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, green development and common security, he said.

Summary: President Yoweri Museveni fulfilled his pledge of 36 motorcycles to the 12 ghetto structures in the Kampala metropolitan area. The motorcycles were delivered by State House Comptroller, Jane Barekye on Wednesday at Bwaise-based ghetto structure, commonly known as Gaza Tough Empire. Each of the ghetto Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOS) received three motorcycles. The beneficiary groups include; Kawempe North Ghetto Cooperative , Masajja Para Society, Zone Ghetto Youth Development Savings and Credit Cooperative Society, Kasokoso Ghetto Cooperative Society and Kawempe South Ghetto Cooperative Society, as well as Makindye West Youths with Skills Cooperative Society.

GOVERNMENT TO REVAMP UGX. 100M MILK COOLER IN NAMUTUMBA

Summary: The government through the Dairy Development Authority (DDA) has unveiled plans to revamp a Shs100m milk cooler in Nakyere Village, Namutumba Sub-county, which has been idle for 17 years. The DDA is a government agency under the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAIIF) that was established to develop and regulate the dairy industry in Uganda. The milk cooler was a 2008/2009 financial year presidential initiative aimed at adding value to milk after the government supplied heifers to model farmers groups in Busoga sub region.
