Must Read

October 2, 2024: In a symbolic ceremony, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the Minister of Education and First Lady Janet Museveni officially opened the reconstructed Main Administration Building of Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. The iconic structure, which was gutted by fire on September 20, has been rebuilt using cutting-edge technology to reflect its rich history and architectural heritage.

The reconstruction project, funded entirely by the Government of Uganda, received UGX 21 billion. The magnificent structure now boasts modern features such as pathways for persons with disabilities, restored elevators, and durable concrete walls.

President Yoweri Museveni celebrated the restoration of Makerere University’s main building following a devastating fire.

He expressed his joy at the commissioning ceremony, saying, “I congratulate Makerere upon restoring the main building, which had been burnt. I am truly happy to take part in commissioning this building.”

During the event, he took on a nostalgic role, guiding guests through the restored structure and sharing, “I participated today as a tour guide, showing the new guests today, where we used to host our students’ debates.”

President Museveni also expressed relief that vital student records were safe, saying, “My main issue was the students’ records. When Professor Nawangwe, told me that the records were safe, I told him, ‘All is well, we shall build another building.'” The president’s words captured the significance of preserving history and looking toward the future.
