LEGS Project Driving Economic Growth in Uganda

On Monday , the Honourable Minister for Local Government, Raphael Magyezi, hosted a high-level delegation from the Islamic Development Bank Group and the Lives and Livelihoods Fund, represented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre.

The delegation also met with Uganda’s Minister of Finance, Hon. Matia Kasaija, at the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development to discuss the progress and future of the Local Economic Growth Support (LEGS) Project in Uganda.

The meeting acknowledged that Phase I of the LEGS Project has yielded tangible and transformative results. This includes the construction of roads, water supply schemes, markets, and value chain facilities that have revitalised local economies and improved livelihoods in beneficiary districts.

Communities that were once isolated from essential services and economic opportunities—such as Tisai Island in Kumi District—now enjoy better access to markets and public services.

Discussions on Phase II of the LEGS Project are now underway, driven by a shared commitment to deepen and expand these successes, further extending infrastructure and economic opportunities to more communities across the country.
