In an effort to enhance service delivery, the government has authorised the recruitment of essential staff for the districts. This includes district health officers, education officers, planners, and extension workers.
Benjamin Kumumanya, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, announced this during the closing ceremony of a 15-day retreat for district accounting officers held at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi.
During his address to the accounting officers at the retreat, Kumumanya stated that they have been equipped with various skills to improve efficiency.
He urged Chief Administrative Officers and Town Clerks to recruit additional staff to help address existing gaps.
“You can’t work alone; you need staff to efficiently serve the people,” he emphasised.

Kumumanya also advised them to remain vigilant in combating corruption, increasing revenue collection, and improving health and education services.
Additionally, he highlighted the importance of providing effective extension services.
He directed accounting officers to take action against district workers who are underperforming in their service delivery.
They should also strive to eliminate bureaucratic tendencies and reward efficient workers within local governments.

Furthermore, he encouraged collaboration with other government stakeholders, such as Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), and to actively promote government programs through regular communication in the media.Any challenges encountered should be referred to the relevant commissioners at the ministry.
