Uganda joins the world in bidding a heartfelt farewell to His Holiness Pope Francis, a spiritual leader whose humility, compassion, and unwavering commitment to peace and justice have touched millions globally.
For Uganda, Pope Francis’ legacy will be remembered for his deep concern for the poor, his call for good governance, and his unwavering support for Africa’s development and dignity. His visit to Uganda in November 2015 remains a moment of national pride and spiritual renewal, especially for the Catholic community and all people of faith.
During his historic visit, the Pope honoured the legacy of the Uganda Martyrs at Namugongo and inspired Ugandans with his message of unity, faith, and service. It was a time when the country came together beyond religious and political lines to receive his blessings and listen to his words of wisdom.
His meeting with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the First Lady, Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni, reaffirmed the strong ties between the Vatican and Uganda. The warm reception accorded to the Holy Father was a testament to the mutual respect and shared values between the leadership of Uganda and the Vatican.
In their meeting, they discussed matters of faith, peace, youth empowerment, and the importance of family values that resonate deeply with Ugandan society.
At the end of his visit, Pope Francis sent a telegram to the president renewing gratitude to all the Ugandan people for the warm hospitality during his stay.
As Pope Francis now bids farewell to his earthly mission, Uganda celebrates his legacy. He has walked the path of a true servant leader, and his impact on the hearts of Ugandans will remain for generations. He reminded us that leadership is not about Power but serving with humility like a servant.
Let us honour Pope Francis by embracing the values he stood for to live in harmony, regardless of one’s status, colour, race or religion
Farewell, Holy Father. Uganda is grateful.
