Summary: Authorities at the Ministry of Health have confirmed two more cases of Ebola. The confirmed cases are close relatives of the 32-year-old nurse of Mulago Hospital, who died on January 29. In the same vein, the Police warned of heightened security risks at commercial banks as parents banked school fees. “Fraudsters often lurk around bank premises during this period, preying on unsuspecting parents and students. We urge banks to enhance security inside and outside their premises,” Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said.

Summary: Uganda has launched its first batch of locally manufactured self-testing kits for HIV, malaria and sickle cell disease. The initiative, led by Microhaem Scientifics and Medical Supplies (MHS), aims to reduce reliance on imported kits and lower testing costs for Ugandans. Dr Cedric Akwesigye, the Chief Executive Officer of MHS, said the locally manufactured self-testing kits cost between $0.6 (about UGX 2,208) and $1 (about UGX 3,680), compared to imported kits that retail for around $1.5 (about UGX 5,520). He explained that these blood-based kits are designed for use by individuals in the comfort of their homes.
